MACOMB, IL - - Aimee Shouse, associate professor of political science at Western Illinois University, has been named interim chair of Western's women's studies department, according to College of Arts Sciences Dean Inessa Levi.

Her 11-month appointment begins Aug. 1 and run through June 30, 2009. She succeeds Polly Radosh, who has retired from Western to take a dean's position at her undergraduate alma mater.

Shouse (rhymes with "house") has been involved in developing and delivering both political science and women's studies curricular offerings since she came to Western Illinois in August 1993. Her current research focus examines the political identity and participation of trade and professional organizations for highly sex-segregated occupations.

"The women's studies department is fortunate to have Dr. Shouse as interim chairperson," said Levi. "Her past roles as acting director in the department, acting chairperson of political science and numerous other service positions she has held in the college and University give her unique qualifications for this role. I am grateful to Dr. Shouse for agreeing once again to help the college and the women's studies department."
