MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University faculty who present their scholarly and professional activities at professional conferences and meetings now have another funding option available for transportation and other conference-related costs.

WIU Provost and Academic Vice President Jack Thomas recently announced the creation of the Provost Award for Faculty Travel. According to Thomas, the award was established to provide funds to support and encourage faculty to present their papers, research and activities at conferences and symposiums. Up to $600 will be provided ($900 for international travel) for transportation, lodging and registration costs for the presentations of accepted papers and invited performances.

The Center for the Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR), led by Director Roger Runquist, will administer the travel fund. A committee comprised of representatives from Western's four colleges, the library and the WIU-QC campus will evaluate applications monthly and make recommendations for the awards as funding exists.

"It is essential for our faculty to attend national conferences and meetings in order to present their research, and to interact with their colleagues from across the world," Thomas noted. "I'm pleased that the University is able to provide further incentive to our faculty, and I'd like to thank Roger Runquist and the CITR advisory board for directing this new award."

To apply for the Provost Award for Faculty Travel, e-mail CITR@wiu.edu or call CITR at (309) 298-2434.
