MACOMB, IL - - Push yourself to reach new heights at Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus climbing tower. Open climbing tower times are scheduled from 1-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 and 1-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, according to Mindy Pheiffer, program coordinator at Horn Field Campus.

The climbing tower is a 40-foot vertical wood structure, with three sides for climbing, complete with rock-like handholds, and one side for rappelling. One tower wall is slightly inclined for those new to the climbing experience.

"Facilitators will be on hand to give instruction in proper equipment and climbing techniques. Climbers should wear closed-toe shoes," Pheiffer said.

Cost to climb during open climbing tower hours is $5 per person.

In addition, there will be a climbing competition from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11. Entry fee for the competition is $10, and no pre-registration is required.
