A Night of Food and Culture at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's Food and Culture Club invites foodies and those interested in food and culture to "A Taste of Foods and Culture Dos and Don'ts," at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the University Union Grand Ballroom. Co-sponsored by the WIU Food and Culture Club and Western's dietetics, fashion merchandising and hospitality (DFMH) department, the evening will start with the 5:30 p.m. social hour, and the "Culture Dos and Don'ts" program will follow at 6 p.m.

According to the event organizers, the tentative menu includes hot and sour soup, chef's salad, dinner rolls, spaghetti, chicken Parmesan and Chinese fruit salad. The event will feature displays from the Student Association for Nutrition Education (SANE), the Hospitality Administration Association (HAA) and Western's Food and Culture Club.

Program highlights include a presentation on Chinese etiquette by Xianfeng Yang from WIU's Center for Application of Information Technology and a presentation on professional etiquette by Janice King and Sheryl Boston, DFMH department associate professors.

The program is open free to WIU faculty, staff and students; priority seating is by reservations only. Tickets for classes, organizations or groups will need to be reserved in advance. All tickets must be picked up by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 from Knoblauch 140.

Student group co-sponsors include the HAA, SANE and Lambda Theta Phi Fraternidad Latina.
