WIU Homecoming Royalty Voting Through Oct. 10

MACOMB, IL - - Ten students are vying for king and queen of Western Illinois University's Homecoming 2008 – "Rocky Loves the 90s – which will include activities and events from Friday, Oct. 10 through Homecoming Day Saturday, Oct. 18.

Student voting for royalty candidates is being held this week through Friday, Oct. 10 via STARS. Voting is also set up from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through Friday in the University Union concourse. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during the 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 Variety Show in Western Hall.

The Homecoming court will attend all of the Homecoming week events, including Paint the Town from 8 a.m. to noon and Spirit Day at MacKenzie Alumni Soccer Field at 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 11); the 1 p.m. boat regatta at the Everly Park lake and the 4 p.m. Deck the Campus event Sunday (Oct. 12); the 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 16) Yell Like Hell pep rally in Western Hall; and on Homecoming Day (Oct. 18), the Homecoming Parade, beginning at 10:30 a.m., and the Leathernecks football game versus Indiana State at 3:05 p.m. at Hanson Field.

Homecoming 2008 candidates are, by hometown:

BARTLETT, IL (60103) - - Laura Dzielski, a senior finance major, represents Delta Zeta sorority, which she serves as president. She is active in Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, Rho Epsilon real estate club, the Finance Club, Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity and the Fusion Dance Club. Dzielski volunteers in the Macomb community at the YMCA's children's center and at nursing homes. She also has been involved in the National Coalition for the Homeless and World Vision Acting on AIDS campaign. She is the daughter of Leonard and Kimberly Dzielski of Bartlett.


GODFREY, IL (62035) - - Allison Morgan, a senior early childhood education major, represents Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. She serves as secretary on the Panhellenic Council, is a student worker in the Knoblauch Hall advising center and was a student orientation staff (SOS) leader. Morgan has worked as a tutor at Macomb's Lincoln School for the America Reads Program, and in Summer 2008 she participated in Western's Volunteer Services trip to Greece to teach English to children. She is the daughter of Marsha Morgan of Godfrey.

KANKAKEE, IL (60901) - - Trent Wilking, a junior law enforcement and justice administration major, represents Tanner Hall, where he is a second-year resident assistant. He serves on the Resident Assistant Council as the Resident Assistant Area Communications Coordinator. Wilking volunteers in the Macomb community in activities including blood drives and the Salvation Army's annual turkey dinner. He is the son of Raymond and Pam Wilking of Kankakee.

LOMBARD, IL (60148) - - Kristin Fiebrandt, a senior music education – choral/general major, represents Lincoln/Washington/Grote halls. She serves as president for the Students of Disability Awareness program; is the programming chair for Corbin/Olson halls government; assists with the Holiday Festival Children's Choir and has been a Summer Music Camp counselor at Western. Fiebrandt is a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity, University Singers and University, Band. She is the daughter of James Fiebrandt of Lombard.

MONTGOMERY, IL (60538) - - Zach Sipes, a senior mathematics education major, represents Lincoln/Washington/Grote halls government. He is a third-year resident assistant and serves as a mathematics lab instructor and tutor. He has served on the Resident Assistant Council and Hall Government, and he has participated in Tanner Hall's annual St. Baldrick's Foundation for children with cancer fundraiser. Sipes also has been a youth group counselor and a ropes course assistant. He is the son of Angela Sipes of Montgomery.

PALATINE, IL (60074) - - Kara Lowe, a senior marketing major, represents Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, which she serves as president. She is also an active member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, and she works at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center teaching group fitness classes. Lowe has volunteered at Macomb's Elms Nursing Home as well as with adopt-a-street and rake-a-thons fundraisers. She is the daughter of Tammy and Brent Lowe of Palatine.


TINLEY PARK, IL (60477) - - Michael Barrera, a senior law enforcement and justice administration major, represents Western's Latin American Student Organization (LASO). He is an active member of several professional, service and volunteer organizations including Sigma Lambda Beta, a fraternity committed to enhancing the understanding of Latino culture; Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity; Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity; and Lambda Alpha Epsilon professional criminal justice fraternity. Barrera also serves on Western's Student Government Association. He is the son of Evelyn Mevias of Tinley Park.

WHITE HALL, IL (62092) - - Kelsey Schutz, a junior social work, major, represents Thompson Hall, where she is a resident assistant and is a member of the Thompson Hall Diversity Committee. Schutz received University Housing's Outstanding Use of Passive Programming Award as well as the Office of Student Activities Teamlead's Outstanding Multicultural Programming Award. She also received National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) regional Educational Program of the Month Award. Schutz is an American Red Cross blood donor and an America Reads volunteer at Lincoln Elementary School in Macomb. She is the daughter of Kenny and Gail Schutz of White Hall.

WILLIAMSVILLE, IL (62693) - - David Arnold, a marketing major, represents Bayliss and Henninger halls. He is a second-year resident assistant, the president of Western's RA Council and a member of the Illinois State Resident Assistant Association. Arnold also a member of Rocky's Renegades. He is the son of David and Lucinda Arnold of Williamsville.

ZION, IL (60099) - - Maxwell Isaac, a junior law enforcement and justice administration major, represents Sigma Chi fraternity. He has served as an Interfraternity Council delegate on behalf of Sigma Chi. Isaac has worked as a resident assistant, a member of the University's orientation team and a student orientation staff (SOS) leader for first year students. He also serves as a Student Judicial Programs board member and gives University tours to potential students and their families. He is the son of Blake and Lisa Isaac of Zion.
