MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University senior Greg Rolf has big outdoor plans just after he graduates next May. A recreation, park and tourism administration (RPTA) major and a photographic media minor (offered through Western's instructional design and technology department), Rolf plans to hike the Appalachian Trail, a 2,100 mile long stretch -- meandering through 14 states from Georgia to Maine -- and take photographs along the way.

While on his journey, Rolf noted he plans to add to his already abundant nature-themed body of work, which he is exhibiting from 3-11 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Horn Lodge on WIU's Horn Field Campus (HFC) in Macomb.

"This particular gallery of photographs is a compilation of images from Mexico, the American west, nudes, abstract and surreal," Rolf said.

The HFC exhibit will help him learn more about how to put up a gallery show, Rolf noted, which benefits his plans of becoming a professional photographer.

"I have been taking photography classes since high school," Rolf said. "I became interested in photography when I was about 11. I found my dad's old 35mm canon AE-1, and I have been taking photographs ever since."

Rolf's photography exhibit is open free to the public, and light refreshments will be served at the event.

"I'm pleased to showcase Greg's talent in a venue like Horn Lodge," added Mindy Pheiffer, HFC program coordinator. "Many of his photos are nature-themed, and they celebrate the beauty of the outdoors."

Horn Field Campus is located south of Macomb on China Road. From South Johnson Street (past Macomb High School), turn right on China Road and follow the road one-quarter of a mile to the Horn Field Campus entrance. Parking will be permitted on the Horn Field Campus lot.
