MACOMB, IL -- Join the Western Illinois University Alumni Association and faculty from the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) for two great Alumni & Friends events in the Windy City this week.

Western alumni and friends are invited to the WIU Educational Networking and Minority Recruitment Event from 7–9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20 at McCormick and Schmick's, located at 1 East Wacker Dr. in downtown Chicago. Complimentary food will be served and a cash bar will be available.

WIU Alumni Association Director Amy Spelman ('98), Western's COEHS Dean Bonnie Smith-Skripps ('73, '74, '89) and Director of WIU Admissions Eric Campbell will be on hand to answer questions about the University's ongoing efforts to recruit minority students to Western. Lyneir Cole ('87), head of the Black Alumni Committee, and members of the Black Alumni Committee will help host the event. Alumna Traci Smith-Brown ('88), Chicago School District No. 149 superintendent, will also be speaking at the Nov. 20 event.

"This event is designed to connect WIU alumni with people who have the ability to direct prospective students who are in the college-selection process," explained Campbell. "It provides a great networking opportunity for WIU alumni, as well as an opportunity to support Western's student recruitment and marketing initiatives in Chicago."

Alumni are also invited to an Alumni & Friends Social, sponsored by WIU's department of educational leadership and the Alumni Association, held in conjunction with the Illinois School Board Association Conference, from 5:30–7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21, also at McCormick and Schmick's in downtown Chicago. Complimentary food will be served and a cash bar will be available.

For Dean Smith-Skripps, both events are opportunities to build on relationships that exist between Western and its alumni.

"We look forward to the chance to interact with education alumni," Smith-Skripps said. "These events will connect WIU with those individuals who have direct contact with students and education professionals in Chicago and around the state of Illinois."

Both events are open to WIU alumni and their spouses, significant others and friends.

"We are looking forward to hosting both of these great events," Spelman said. "Not only do we get a chance to see alumni, we also are able to work with other areas of campus to host our alumni in Chicago."
