Reinhart Retirement Reception Set

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Law Enforcement and Administration Professor Stephen Reinhart has announced he will retire at the end of the Fall 2008 semester after 20 years of service. A farewell reception for Reinhart will be held from
2-4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 in Stipes Hall 501.

Reinhart, who received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement from WIU in 1975, joined the WIU military science department in July 1988. He served as the military science department chair for four years (1993-97). He retired from active military duty June 30, 1997 after 22 years of service. Reinhart was appointed the law enforcement and justice administration department (now called School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration) chair in July 1997 and served as chair for nine years. Reinhart also served as acting chair of the educational administration and supervision (now called educational leadership) department and as assistant dean of the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) for five years.

"Professor Reinhart has an extensive history of contributions to Western Illinois University, beginning with his appointment as chair of the department of military science in 1993. In that leadership role he obtained national recognition of WIU's ROTC program, which continues today," said COEHS Dean Bonnie Smith-Skripps. "As chair of the law enforcement and justice administration department for nine years, he provided leadership that positioned the department to be recognized for its quality programs. Throughout his career at WIU, Steve has continually demonstrated his commitment to academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth and social responsibility."

During his active duty career Reinhart served in numerous positions, including assignments as a counterintelligence officer in Germany, instructor pilot, company commander, academic instructor, medevac pilot, assistant professor, director of military recruitment, general's staff and battalion commander.
