WIU's Brassfest 2009 Jan. 25

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's School of Music will host Brassfest 2009: "A Celebration of Arnold Jacobs" from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall, located in Simpkins Hall.

The daylong festival of clinics and performances will feature guest clinicians Brian Frederiksen, Bruce Nelson and Luis Loubriel, as well as members of Western's brass faculty.

Onsite registration, $40 per person, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the COFAC Recital Hall.

The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature Western's faculty in-residence Lamoine Brass Quintet, comprised of Bruce Briney and Diana Miller, trumpets; Randall Faust, horn; John Mindeman, trombone; and Terry Solomonson, tuba; as well as a Festival Brass Choir.

The Lamoine Brass Quintet will perform the following: Three chorale settings of "Herzlich tut mich verlangen" (My Heart is Filled with Longing), "Chorale" by Hans Leo Hassler and "Chorale prelude" by Johannes Brahms; "Brass Quintet" by David Szubay; and "Brass Sextet in E-flat minor" by Oskar Boehme.

Admission to the evening concert is $5 for the public at the door. WIU students will be admitted free with a valid ID.
