MACOMB, IL - - Get on the VIP crew and help those at Horn Field Campus (HFC) prepare the 92-acre retreat for warmer weather. As members of the VIP (volunteer, improve, preserve) crew, individuals will help clear and mulch debris on HFC's trails. Spring 2009 VIP Days are slated for 1-4 p.m., Thursdays Feb. 26, March 12, March 26, April 16 and May 7.

Open year-round and administered by the recreation, park and tourism department (RPTA) at Western Illinois University, HFC features a rustic, relaxed setting with woodlands, prairie and several miles of nature trails.

"HFC is ideal for getting back to nature, recreation, study and reflection or just relaxing," noted Mindy Pheiffer, HFC coordinator. "HFC provides Western faculty and students a place to teach and learn practical skills, and our programs and facilities are available to groups and individuals from the surrounding area as well. We host a wide variety of educational and service programs," she added.

Spring 2009 VIP Days' crew members should come prepared for the weather. Wearing work gloves and work clothes are recommended. Refreshments will be provided to those who volunteer.

HFC is located south of Macomb on China Road. From South Johnson Street (past Macomb High School), turn right on China Road and follow the road one-quarter of a mile to the Horn Field Campus entrance. Parking is permitted on the HFC lot.
