20th Annual School Law Conference at WIU March 13

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's educational leadership department will host the 20th Annual School Law Conference for Administrators, Teachers & Board Members, "Contemporary Legal Issues in Illinois," from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, March 13, in the University Union on Western's Macomb campus.

According to Robert Marshall, coordinator of the educational leadership department's doctoral program at WIU, the conference presenters are practicing lawyers who will inform conference attendees about the most recent decisions and issues they face in their work with clients in education. Presentations will highlight issues, such as sexual abuse and other recent cases or legal problems, highly relevant to educational leaders.

Presentations and speakers include:

  • "Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Students" by Dennis R. Triggs
  • "When Does a 'Past Practice' or Custom Become a Contractual Obligation?" by Jay Greening
  • "Case Law and Procedures for Removing Poor Tenure Teachers" by Everett E. Nicolas, Jr.
  • "Legal Considerations for Response to Intervention" by Stephanie Jones
  • "Superintendent's Employment Contracts in the Brave New Budgetary World: Tips for Staying Competitive, Cost-Effective and Tax Compliant" by Heather Brickman
  • "Student Discipline: Emerging Hot Topics" by Patrick Broncato
