MACOMB, IL -- Outdoor enthusiasts, campers and hikers will have the opportunity to prep their skills for the coming season at the Outdoor Skills Seminar offered by Horn's Environmental Learning Project (H.E.L.P.) 9 a.m.–noon. Saturday, March 28 at Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus (HFC).

Mindy Pheiffer, HFC program coordinator, said the topics to be covered include a "Leave No Trace" session. According to its website, the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics "is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide." In addition, the morning-long seminar will include a session that covers "the 10 essentials of backpacking."

Presenters include members of Western faculty and WIU graduate and undergraduate students. H.E.L.P.'s Outdoor Skills Seminar is open free to the public.

HFC is located south of Macomb on China Road. From South Johnson Street (past Macomb High School), turn right on China Road and follow the road one-quarter of a mile to the Horn Field Campus entrance. Parking is permitted on the HFC lot.
