"Peace in Islamic Doctrine" Presentation April 1 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - - Guest speaker Nagasura Madale, professor of peace education and conflict management at Mindanao State University, Marawi City, Philippines, will present the lecture "Peace in Islamic Doctrine" at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 in Stipes Hall 121.

In the presentation, which is open free to the public, Madale will discuss the place of peace and justice in Islamic doctrine and talk about a grassroots peace-building and conflict resolution in Mindanao, Philippines. A reception, sponsored by the Islamic Center of Macomb, will be held following the lecture.

Madale's lecture is made possible through cooperative efforts of the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and their Illinois Network on Islam and Muslim Societies (I-NIMS) grant as well as the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University.

Western's African American studies and philosophy and religious studies departments are sponsoring Madale's visit and presentation. Co-sponsors include the Islamic Center of Macomb and the Religious Studies Organization.
