MOLINE, IL -- The Jeff Leibovitz Special Collection of Holocaust Education Materials, housed at the Western Illinois University Quad Cities' Library, will be the focus of an open house and reception honoring the collection's 15th anniversary. Slated for 6:30–8 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, the event will be held at 3561 60th Street in Moline.

The Leibovitz Collection includes books, audiovisual materials, teaching aids and other items for use in educating about the Holocaust. The collection was founded in honor of Jeff Leibovitz, a WIU-Quad Cities elementary education student who passed away of a heart attack in 1994 and whose dream was to teach about the era, causes and influence of the Holocaust. The collection is available for use by faculty, staff and students of Western Illinois University and also by Quad Cities' area teachers and education students.

According to Jeffery Darensbourg, marketing and outreach librarian at Western Illinois University Libraries, the idea for the open house and reception to celebrate the Leibovitz Special Collection's anniversary was that of Angela Ferree, a professor in Western's curriculum and instruction department. The event will include displays by Western graduate students who are taking Ferree's Advanced Literature for Young Adults course this semester.

"This will be a great opportunity for the people to learn about this important collection, a collection that represents the value we at WIU place on education as a foundation for social responsibility," Darensbourg said.

Sponsored by WIU's curriculum and instruction department and University Libraries, the event is open free to the public. Parking, with free shuttle service to the WIU-QC Library, is available at Christ the King Church at 3209-60th Street in Moline.
