MACOMB, IL -- Two Western Illinois University students are being honored for their outstanding leadership, achievement and community building by Campus Recreation and WIU's intramural sport programs.

According to Dustin Van Sloten, assistant director of sport programs, Jessica Sparks (Ewing, MO), who is slated to graduate this Spring and majored in law enforcement and justice administration, has been awarded the 2008-2009 Tammy McGovern Award, and Evan Moy (Vernon Hills, IL), a sophomore who is majoring in emergency management, has been named the recipient of the John Nickerson Award.

Van Sloten said the Tammy McGovern and John Nickerson Awards are given to the Western female and male students (respectively) who best exemplify what intramural sports are all about.

"Jessica has participated in numerous intramural events and has served as captain for the majority of her teams. She has also been recognized as the 2008-2009 Intramural Sports Female Official of the Year for her continued commitment and dedication to our officiating program," Van Sloten said. "Both Jessica and Evan exemplify sportsmanship, care for the program, a desire to excel and a winning attitude."
