2009 Technology Education Exhibit Awards

MACOMB, IL - - Area students and schools were recognized for outstanding projects submitted into competition at the 52nd Annual Technology Education Exhibit sponsored by the Western Illinois University engineering technology department.
More than 480 projects from students in 11 schools representing 19 instructors were exhibited. Schools receiving the highest accumulated point totals across four levels received sweepstakes and runner-up awards. Top placers in Level 1, which includes students through eighth grade, were sweepstakes winner Meredosia-Chambersburg High School (Meredosia, IL) and runner-up Quincy (IL) High School.
In level 2, which includes 9-12 grade students with no more than one year of experience in a given division of work, the sweepstakes award was earned by Moline (IL) High School and the runner-up award was earned by United High School of Monmouth (IL).
The top two schools in Level 3, which includes 10-12 grade students with up to two years of industrial education experience, were sweepstakes winner Quincy (IL) Area Vocational Technical Center and runner-up Moline (IL) High School.
Schools earning top honors in Level 4, which includes vocational students and others with more than two years of experience, were sweepstakes winner Canton (IL) High School and runner-up Moline (IL) High School.
Divisional excellence awards were presented to the following students, listed by Illinois town and school:
CANTON High School - - Robert Rhodes, Level 4, for a Frisbee golf basket in the general metal working division, welding.
KNOXVILLE High School - - Joel Wilford, Level 2, for a wood bend and lamination in the open division; and Brandon Kennelly, Level 2, for an architectural bridge model in the open division.
MEREDOSIA-Chambersburg High School - - Seth Schmitz, Level 2, for machine drawings in the machine drafting division, mechanical drawings done on board.
MOLINE High School - - Amanda Smith, Level 2, for a basement plan in the machine drafting division, mechanical drawings done on the board.
MONMOUTH United High School - - Aaron McDonald, Level 2, for an end table in the general woodworking division, machine workworking.
QUINCY Area Vocational Technical Center - - Chase Shade, Level 3, for an engine block and crank shaft in the mechanical CAD division, mechanical drawings by CAD; Tyler Brown, Level 2, for a mini manor (brown) in the architectural drawings division, architectural drawings by CAD; Brad Genenbacher, Level 3, for a Stirling Engine in the machine metal working division; and Jasmine Anders, Level 2, for curb appeal study (Anders) in the rendering and illustrating division.
