MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's physics department will host a 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 open house for prospective students and their parents to highlight the options available for students who come to WIU to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in physics, or to complete a pre-professional program in engineering or architecture.

"We are excited to highlight new options available to pre-engineering students, including the engineering program at the WIU-Quad Cities campus, a new articulation agreement between Western and the University of Iowa's engineering program and the engineering physics degree from Western for physics students who go on to complete their engineering degree elsewhere," said Jim Rabchuk, physics professor and event organizer.

Open house activities will be held in Currens Hall, Room 205. The morning session will include presenters from the physics and pre-engineering programs at WIU-Macomb and the engineering program at WIU-Quad Cities, and representatives from the engineering colleges at the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There will also be a question-and-answer discussion panel made up of WIU alumni from the pre-engineering and physics programs.

A pizza luncheon will be held for all participants, and the afternoon session will include a problem-solving design competition with prizes.
