Abstracts for EGO's Identity and Class Conference Due Oct. 15

MACOMB, IL - - The English Graduate Organization (EGO) at Western Illinois University will hold its sixth annual conference – "Questioning Identity: Representations of Class and Working Class Identity" – Friday-Saturday, Nov. 13-14.

Paper proposals for this conference will be accepted through Thursday, Oct. 15. Topics might include, but are not limited to, the following: globalization, class conflict, commodities, Marxism, economics, representations of labor, gender, consumption, nationalism or capitalism, said EGO Co-President Charity Weiss (Avon, IL). Proposals should be limited to 250-300 words. Send proposed papers to EGO Co-President Sara Naslund at SJ-Naslund@wiu.edu.

Janet Zandy, professor of English at Rochester Institute of Technology, is the conference keynote speaker. She will present "Seeing Beyond Dirt: The Language of Working-Class Photography" at 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 13) in Morgan Hall 101B. She also will take part in conference panel presentations on Saturday (Nov. 14).
