Krong Services Set

MACOMB, IL – Services for Western Illinois University Education Professor Emeritus Norman L. Krong will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Wesley Village. Krong died Oct. 17 in Macomb.

Krong grew up in Clarks, NE and was a graduate of Nebraska Central College in Central City, NE. His service in the Army from 1942-46 included duty in New Guinea, New Britain, the Philippines and Japan. He took officer training at Camp Barkley, TX and was a captain and chief mess officer in the Army Medical Corps. He was honorably discharged at the close of World War II. Following his military service, Krong attended the University of Nebraska and received his master's in 1948 and his Ph.D. in 1954.

Krong joined Western's education faculty in 1957. He taught for 29 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to coming to WIU, he served as a principal in Sargent, NE; as district superintendent in Nehawka, NE; and as a professor at North Dakota State University.

He was a member of the Macomb Wesley United Methodist Church and the Macomb Kiwanis Club. He had been active in several professional organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, The Administators' Round Table of Western Illinois, the National and Illinois Councils of Professors of Educational Administration, the American and Illinois Associations of School Administrators and the National and Illinois Associations for Student Teaching.

Krong is survived by his wife, Eva (Eileen); two daughters; one son; five grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Norman L. and Eileen Krong Scholarship Fund at Western Illinois University, the McDonough District Hospital Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
