MACOMB, IL -- Take your family on a new kind of adventure with a free family climb at Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus (HFC). From 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 families are invited to HFC to experience the climbing wall, also known as the "tower."

The tower is a 40-foot vertical wood structure designed for climbing and rappelling, with three sides for climbing, complete with rock-like handholds, with one side designed for rappelling.

According to Patrick Croke, one of the students majoring in recreation, park and tourism administration (RPTA) helping coordinate the afternoon family-climb activity, donations will be accepted from those who participate.

"The proceeds will help us buy new children's helmets and harnesses for use at Horn Field Campus," he said. "We encourage families to come out and take advantage of the unique offering of the climbing wall and experience a fun, family activity in the beautiful outdoor setting of Horn Field Campus," Croke added.

The activity is open free to the public; if it should rain on Saturday, Nov. 7, the event will be postponed until 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.

For more information, contact Croke at PC-Croke@wiu.edu, Kathryn Doolan at KJ-Doolan@wiu.edu or call Horn Field Campus at (309) 833-5798. To learn more about the various activities and events held at Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus, visit wiu.edu/rpta/HFC/index.html.
