MACOMB, IL -- One enchanted evening can lead to another when you turn your prom, wedding, bridesmaid dresses or evening gowns into cash that can go toward a fun night out… or toward whatever financial need arises. The Western Area Career System (WACS) fashion merchandising class, comprised of area high school students enrolled in a fashion class taught at WIU, will hold its annual Prom/Wedding Dress Sale from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in Knoblauch Hall 224 on Western's Macomb campus. The WACS fashion-merchandising class is taught by Jill Cassady, faculty assistant in the dietetics, fashion merchandising and hospitality (DFMH) department at WIU.

Individuals should drop off their dresses at the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce and Down Development Office on Layfayette Street or Knoblauch Hall 140 Monday, Feb. 1. Dresses must be clean and in good condition. There is a $5 registration fee for each item, and dresses must be priced at $100 or less. Ten dollars of each sale will go to the Western Area Career Fund, with the dress donor receiving the balance. Cash or checks will be accepted (no credit cards will be accepted for payment).

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the WACS students to get first-hand experience in a retail-type setting. They are responsible for the registrations, dress displays and all sales," Cassady explained. "This also provides a wonderful chance for individuals who are looking for a 'perfect' dress for an upcoming formal event without spending hundreds of dollars. In addition, buyers will be helping a school organization in the process."

For more information, contact Cassady at (309) 298-3154 or JL-Cassady@wiu.edu. To learn more about the Western Area Career System visit mcdonough.k12.il.us/wacs.
