ICTM Regional High School Math Contest at WIU February 20

MACOMB, IL - - The Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) Regional Mathematics Contest will be held at Western Illinois University from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 in Morgan Hall.

Western Illinois' mathematics department is host to the annual high school competition.

This regional testing is for students in small high schools: Division IA, 399 or less student enrollment; and Division 2A, 400-999 student enrollment. Participating teams include:
Division IA:
BIGGSVILLE (IL) – West Central High School
MONMOUTH (IL) – United High School
VIRGINIA (IL) High School

Division 2A:
BEARDSTOWN (IL) High School
CARTHAGE (IL) – Illini West High School
GENESEO (IL) High School
MACOMB (IL) High School
PITTSFIELD (IL) High School
ROCK ISLAND (IL) Alleman High School

Students will begin competition with a written exam in one of four areas: algebra I, algebra II, geometry or pre-calculus. During the remainder of the competition, students work in teams.
Category B: Freshman-Sophomore 2-person team and Junior-Senior 2-person team
Category C: Freshman-Sophomore 8-person team and Junior-Senior 8-person team
Oral Team Competition, with the theme "Graph Theory: Networks and Circuits"

School teams, event teams and individuals can qualify for the state finals, which will be held May 1 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. More information is available on the ICTM regional competition website at www.ictm.org/links/contest.html.
