MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Alumni Association and Student Alumni Association (SAA), in conjunction with Western's chapter of Campus Students for Christ, will hold a memorial ceremony for Kerstin Taylor, a WIU senior from Moline (IL) who died July 29 in Macomb. According to Alumni Association Associate Director Amanda Shoemaker, the event will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 on the back patio of the Alumni House.

"Kerstin was a very active member of the Student Alumni Association since she joined in Fall 2009. In her role as vice president, she led the organization in a positive manner. Kerstin enjoyed meeting WIU alumni, worked hard to make every SAA member feel included in every activity and always had a smile on her face," Shoemaker said.

Taylor, 23, was pursuing a bachelor's degree in special education. In addition to her academic pursuits and work with SAA at Western, Taylor was actively involved with WIU's chapter of Campus Students for Christ.

"Kerstin served as a member and leader of Campus Students for Christ for four years. Typically, she was the first person individuals met and remembered when they first attended a service or event," said Barry Reed, director of Campus Ministries. "She had a way of expressing love for every person who walked through the door. Kerstin was the type of leader we hope all of our student leaders strive to be. Her physical presence will be missed, but her legacy will continue to make a difference in the lives of WIU students."

The memorial event is open to WIU students, faculty, staff and the public; online condolences may be left on Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory's website at www.esterdahl.com.

Toward the end of the Spring 2011 semester, the annual tree planting ceremony will be held to honor all the students who have passed away during the past year.
