IIRA Sustainability Brownbaggers Fall '10 Line Up

MACOMB, IL - - The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA), housed at Western Illinois University, will once again sponsor a series of Sustainability Brownbaggers events. The one-hour presentations, held over the lunch hour from 12:30–1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, are described as "conversations for the natural and social sciences, business and the arts and humanities."

The Sustainability Brownbaggers events will be held in WIU's Leslie F. Malpass Library, third floor. Upcoming presentations include:

Tuesday, Sept. 21: "Sustainability Across the Curriculum from Brainstorm to Action: Realizing Our Education and Outreach Goals"
Presented by: Amy Patrick Mossman, associate professor, English and journalism

Tuesday, Sept. 28: "Local Food Co-ops: An Ingredient of the Local Food Movement"
Presented by: Gordon Rands, chair, management and marketing; Brian Davies, assistant professor, physics; and Erin Orwig, IIRA

Tuesday, Oct. 5: "Sustainability and Illinois' Big Rivers"
Presented by: Timothy Spier, associate professor, biological sciences

Tuesday, Oct. 12: "Building a More Sustainable Society: Environmental Education, Experiences and Expressions in Local Classrooms"
Presented by: Eric Ribbens, associate professor, biological sciences

Tuesday, Oct. 19: "Emiquon Corps of Discovery -- A Brief Overview"
Presented by: Margaret Ovitt, artist and naturalist; and Nancy Jones, artist and naturalist

Tuesday, Oct. 26: " Sustainability at WIU: What Are We Doing Now?"
Presented by: Mandi Green, WIU sustainability coordinator

Tuesday, Nov. 2: "Recent Flash Food Events in the Upper Midwest: Causes and Common Characteristics"
Presented by: Tom Williams, associate professor, geography

The Brownbaggers Sustainability series is presented in cooperation with the Malpass Library, the WIU Institute for Environmental Studies, the WIU Honors College and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR).
