MACOMB, IL -- A major in recreation/leisure doesn't mean studying the intricacies of Dodgeball or studying the "science" of how to be a couch potato.

Western Illinois University students (and prospective students) can learn exactly what a major in recreation, park and tourism administration (RPTA) is all about at the RPTA Career Showcase Monday, Feb. 28. The event will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in the University Union Lamoine Room on the WIU-Macomb campus.

According to RPTA graduate student Karl Schmidt, RPTA faculty and students will be on hand to answer questions about what recreation majors really do. The showcase will also feature displays demonstrating career opportunities for students with an interest in the recreation field.

Refreshments will be served and each person who brings a friend will be entered into a drawing for free passes to WIU's Horn Field Campus' climbing and rappelling tower.

"This is a great opportunity for current and prospective students to look at all the career field options available to RPTA majors," Schmidt added.

For more information, contact the RPTA department at (309) 298-1967 or e-mail RPTA@wiu.edu. More information on the RPTA major at Western is also available at www.wiu.edu/coehs/rpta/.
