March 4 Promotion Ceremony to Colonel for LTC Thomas Seifert

MACOMB, IL – LTC Thomas W. Seifert, professor of military science (PMS) and chair of the military science department at Western Illinois University and Monmouth College since June 2009, will be promoted to the rank of Colonel in a 1 p.m. Friday, March 4 ceremony in Horrabin Hall I.

LTC Seifert came to Western after an assignment to Fort Bragg, NC, which included two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005-2006 and 2008-2009) with the XVIII Airborne Corps and Multi-National Corps Iraq.

LTC Seifert graduated from Indiana University–Bloomington and received his commission as an Adjutant General Corps officer in 1988. His first active duty assignment was with the Eighth U.S. Army, Korea where he served as a Platoon Leader. During Operation Desert Shield/Storm, he served as Platoon Leader in the 24th Infantry Division. He subsequently served as Chief, G-1 Officer Management, 24th Infantry Division, and Battalion S-1, Joint Task Force Bravo, Honduras.

Following the Officer Advanced Course, Seifert commanded Headquarters Company, 43rd AG Battalion, and subsequently served as Secretary of the General Staff, U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He returned to Korea in 1996 as the Battalion S-3 (Operations), 516th Personnel Services Battalion, and later commanded the Headquarters Company, 8th Personnel Command, and served as Chief, Theater Army Personnel Systems Division. After Korea, he served as POW/MIA team leader in the U.S. Army Casualty Operations Center, U.S. Army Human Resources Command.

Following the Command and General Staff College, Seifert was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC, where he served as Battalion S-3 (Operations), 82nd Paratrooper Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, and later served as Corps G-1 Strength Manager, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, before deploying for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

LTC Seifert's awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals and other campaign and service-related ribbons. He is a Senior Parachutist. LTC Seifert received a master's degree in human resource development from Webster University. He is married and has three children.
