Nevada Capitol City the Focus of Moreno's Latest Work

MACOMB, IL - - Richard Moreno, director of student publications at Western Illinois University and a professor of journalism courses, has authored another new book, "A Short History of Carson City," which was recently published by University of Nevada Press. He will give a lecture and sign copies of the book Thursday, March 24 at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.
According to a news release from the State of Nevada's Department of Cultural Affairs, the book traces the story of the capitol city from its origin as a mid-nineteenth-century trading post to its rise as the political center of Nevada.
Guy Louis Rocha, retired state archivist, said, "Richard Moreno's book represents the first substantial history of Nevada's state capitol. There are no books that come close to providing a useful narrative overview of Carson City's history." Also praising the book is Nevada State Historic Preservation Officer Ronald James, who called the book "a 'must have' for anyone interested in western history and specifically for readers who want to speak with authority about Carson City."
"A Short History of Carson City" marks Moreno's 10th Nevada-related book. The author of such books as "Nevada Curiosities" and "Roadside History of Nevada," Moreno received a 2007 Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award. Before coming to WIU, Moreno was publisher of Nevada Magazine. His first publication on the Land of Lincoln, "Illinois Curiosities," was published by Globe Pequot Press earlier this year, and "It Happened in Illinois" is scheduled to be out in August.
