Presenter Information

Adam Chacksfield retired from the WIU faculty at age 33 to live simply and focus on spiritual development. He spends much of his time practicing at the spiritual retreats of varied Buddhist and Hindu traditions, and helping cultivate spiritual community here in Macomb. Chacksfield currently guides the weekly meditation group at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and coordinates The Macomb Meditation Group. He has also formed a Nondual Dialogue Group, at which the space of unconditioned awareness is opened through dialogue rather than the monologue of guided meditation.

Karen Mauldin-Curtis, program manager for the award-winning Peace Corps Fellows Program in Community Development, a unit of the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at WIU, has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years and has been teaching in Macomb for the last seven years. Mauldin-Curtis draws from a variety of yoga styles, including Kripalu, Ashtanga, Anusara and Iyengar, and she will integrate these into the Wellness Weekend sessions.

Emily Schoenfelder is a graduate student in WIU's recreation, park and tourism administration department. Having spent the majority of her life in Florida, Schoenfelder is a neophyte to the Midwest ecosystem; however, she learned a great deal about local flora and fauna while serving as an environmental educator at Horn Field Campus. Currently, Schoenfelder works for a non-profit community and economic development agency assisting small, rural villages in Fulton County.

Kelley Quinn is a local labyrinth builder and mandala artist. She earned a M.A. in contemporary art history from Webster University in St. Louis and is certified as a labyrinth facilitator by the International Labyrinth Society. Quinn is involved in multiple community art projects and is a board member of the West Central Illinois Arts Center. Her work is currently being shown at the Illinois State Museum in Chicago.
