MACOMB, IL – A retirement reception in honor of Deanna "Dea" Forney, professor in the Western Illinois University Department of Educational and Interdisciplinary Studies' College Student Personnel (CSP) program in the College of Education and Human Services, will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 29 at the Multicultural Center on the WIU Macomb campus.

Forney joined Western's CSP program as an assistant professor in 1987 and was promoted to professor in 1996. During her time at WIU, she has been selected as an American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Senior Scholar and a Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Faculty Fellow. She is co-author of the book "Student Development in College: Theory, Research and Practice" (now in its second edition, released last year). She also is the senior editor of "Using Entertainment Media in Student Affairs Teaching and Practice"; is a frequent presenter at professional conferences; and has served as a consultant to several colleges and universities. Her major areas of scholarly interest include student development theory and application; the teaching and learning process; and job stress and burnout.

Forney also has been named a Diamond Honoree by ACPA for outstanding contributions to the field of student affairs. She is a recipient of ACPA's Annuity Coeptis Award; the University of Maryland Counseling and Personnel Services (CAPS) Department's Distinguished Alumni Award; the Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development Research Award; and WIU's Professional Achievement and Faculty Excellence Award.

"Dr. Forney has been an outstanding colleague, teacher and scholar who has been instrumental in helping construct one of the best college student personnel programs in the country," said Tracy Davis, coordinator of WIU's college student personnel program, professor in Western's educational and interdisciplinary studies program and director of the Center for the Study of Masculinities and Men's Development. "Although we will miss her, her legacy of quality will be here long after she leaves. The impact that she has had on students and the profession has received national recognition and I am proud to be associated with the program she has helped build," he added.

Forney retires with 24 years of service at Western; the retirement reception in her honor will be held on the final day of COEHS Week 2011 (April 25-29), an annual celebration of the College of Education and Human Services' students, faculty and staff.
