MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University students have produced the Spring/Summer 2011 issue of Western Illinois Magazine, a bi-annual publication that showcases interesting people, places and things in the Western Illinois region.

This fourth issue of Western Illinois Magazine focuses on dining and food in the Western Illinois region. Copies are available for free in Western Courier newspaper racks on the Western Illinois University-Macomb campus and in various businesses in Macomb and Western Illinois.

Highlights of the Fantastic Food issue include a look at Joe Roger's Chili Parlor in Springfield, which has been featured on the Food Network, as well as stories on the late-night food cart vendors in downtown Macomb, Feldo's old-time ice cream stand in Colchester and where to dine in Macomb.

Additionally, the issue includes a travel excursion to historic Bishop Hill, a snapshot of the life of the late Philip Jose Farmer, an award-winning science fiction writer from Peoria, and a profile of horror film blogger—and WIU marching band baton twirler—Brittany-Jade Colangelo.

The student-run Western Illinois Magazine is produced once each semester. The editor-in-chief for the issue is Matt Kosek, a senior journalism major from Naperville; managing editor is Vince Veltre, a senior journalism major from Pittsburg, Penn. Advisers include WIU journalism professor Bill Knight and Rich Moreno, director of student publications at WIU.
