September 9 Farewell for Master Sgt. Levi Carcamo

MACOMB, IL – A celebration send-off for Master Sgt. Levi Carcamo is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9 in the Western Illinois University military science department in Horrabin Hall 1. Department members and cadets will meet with Carcamo from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Campus and community members are welcome to stop by between 1–2 p.m.

Carcamo served 23 years in the U.S. Army, retired in 1997 and accepted a civilian job as a Reserve Officers' Training Course (ROTC) instructor in Western's military science department, where he has served the past 14 years. He also has been the adviser to the ROTC Color Guard, which he coached to back-to-back first place finishes (2007, 2008) in the statewide Pershing Rifles Invitational Drill Meet.

He joined the Army in September 1974 from Jackson (MS), was a Distinguished Honor Graduate of the Basic Non-commissioned Officers Course, and graduated from the Advanced Non-commissioned Officers Course as an Infantry soldier. His personal and unit decorations include the Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Commendation, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal with Valor, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He is also Air Assault qualified.

Carcamo and his wife, Vilma, have four daughters.
