Food and U Talk Sept. 19 in Malpass Library

MACOMB, IL -- Food is fundamental to human existence, but all too often many of us take its production for granted. Western Illinois University's Department of Sociology and Anthropology and WIU Libraries have teamed up to provide the WIU and Macomb community with "FOOD and U," a series of occasional lecture and discussion sessions that examine the relationship of food between those who produce it, sell it, prepare it, purchase it, eat it and think and write about it.
The inaugural session in the FOOD and U series is slated for 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 in the Leslie F. Malpass Library, room 180, on the WIU-Macomb campus. Heather McIlvaine-Newsad, professor in sociology and anthropology at WIU, will discuss the community's relationship to the production and consumption of food. Her presentation will draw upon her experience as the daughter of a farmer; as a scientist who researches the anthropology of food; as a consumer of local food; and as a community activist around issues related to food.
The session is open free to the public.
