"Economics and Politics of Debt" Panel Discussion Oct. 13

MACOMB, IL -- Is the United States headed for a second recession? Will the sovereign debt crisis in Europe drag our economy down with it? Why did the U.S. find its bonds downgraded for the first time in its history? What role do the 2012 elections play in the political brinkmanship American citizens have witnessed in Washington?
A panel discussion, which will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 in Stipes Hall 121 on the the Western Illinois University-Macomb campus, will address these questions and more. Sponsored by the departments of political science and economics and decision sciences, along with WIU Libraries, "At the Precipice: The Economics and Politics of Debt" panelists will discuss the ongoing national and international debt crisis.
The panel, comprised of William Polley, associate professor, economics and decision sciences, and Julia Albarracin, associate professor, political science, will address the economic causes and consequences of the debt problem and will examine the political aspects of debt both here and abroad. Casey LaFrance, assistant professor, political science, will moderate.
