Nelson Named COEHS Acting Associate Dean

MACOMB, IL -- Don Nelson, assistant dean for teacher education in the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) at Western Illinois University, has been named acting associate dean of the college effective Jan. 1, 2002.

Nelson has served as the COEHS assistant dean for teacher education since January 1999 and currently directs the Consortium for the Application of Technology and Learning Innovations in Schools of Education (CATALISE) funded under USDE’s Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) grants program. Nelson came to WIU in 1990 as a faculty member in the department of curriculum and instruction (formerly called elementary education and reading).

He received a Ph.D. in education from the University of Iowa following 20 years of teaching in Rock Island public schools. Nelson was active in the field of science education as an author, staff development trainer and consultant. He is a past recipient of the WIU Faculty Excellence Award, the COEHS Teacher of the Year Award and the Dean’s Award for Innovative Teaching with Technology.
