Jan. 19: 2nd Book Discussion of Civil War Reading and Discussion Series at Malpass

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Libraries and the WIU Department of History will host the second book discussion in the five-part reading and discussion series, "Let's Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War," starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 in the Leslie F. Malpass Library Garden Lounge on the WIU-Macomb campus.
University Libraries is one system of 65 libraries or library systems nationwide that has received a grant to host the series developed by the American Library Association (ALA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
Timothy Roberts, assistant professor of history at WIU, will lead the discussion about each selected book or work in the book-discussion sessions. The Jan. 19 discussion session will cover the book, "America's War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on Their 150th Anniversaries," an anthology of historical fiction, speeches, diaries, memoirs, biography and short stories, edited by national project scholar Edward L. Ayers and co-published by NEH and ALA. The discussion topic will be part two of the anthology, "Choosing Sides."
According to Marketing and Outreach Librarian Tammy Sayles, the entire anthology is available for checkout at University Libraries.
Each book discussion event is open free to the public. Participants are not required to read the material prior to attending, but discussions will be limited to the reading.
