WIU Livestock Judging Team Participates in Denver Stock Show

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University 2002 Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team brought home several awards from the 96th Annual National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO Jan. 18.

WIU was the fifth team overall of 24 teams. Matt Rincker, a senior agriculture major from Windsor, was named the second high individual overall from the 140 participants. Rincker placed eighth in beef, ninth in swine, ninth in sheep and ninth in oral reasons.

In the Livestock Judging Competition, the team, coached by WIU farm swine production manager Bruce Engnell, placed fourth overall in beef, ninth in sheep, sixth in swine and eighth in oral reasons. The team ranked 14th in the Collegiate Carload Cattle Judging Contest and third in overall placings.

WIU team member J.R. Armstrong, a senior agriculture major from Hunstville, was eighth in sheep and placed 17th overall. Other team members taking part in the 2002 Expo included agriculture majors Patrick Mulinex, a freshman from Macomb; Justin Ebbert, a senior from Knightstown, IN; Jacob Dorjohn, a junior from Atwood; and alternates Adam Kimmle, a senior from Mascoutah, and Becky Melvin, a junior from Marietta.
