MACOMB, IL- A screening of the movie "Network" will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 in Simpkins Hall 220 on Western Illinois University's Macomb campus.

TV anchorman Howard Beale (Peter Finch) says on the air that he will commit suicide on next week's broadcast. When the station fires him, news director Max Schumacher (William Holden) allows him one more show to apologize and make a dignified exit. Once Beale get on the air, he goes into a rage, spewing obscenities, which causes a huge spike in viewers. Instead of firing Beale, the station uses his derangement to increase ratings.

The 1976 film features an all-star cast, which also includes Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall and Ned Beatty. "Network" won four Academy awards and is preserved in the National Film Registry.

This screening is sponsored by Western Illinois University's Film Club and the Society of Professional Journalists.
