In the sixth issue of the student-run Western Illinois Magazine, Editor Reilly Maloney notes the theme is "hidden treasures of western Illinois." Western IL Mag: Latest Issue Spotlights Region's Hidden Treasures

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University students have produced the Spring 2012 issue of Western Illinois Magazine, a free bi-annual publication that showcases interesting people, places and things in the western Illinois region.

In the latest issue of the student-run magazine, Editor Reilly Maloney (junior, English major/journalism minor, Homewood, IL) noted the theme is "hidden treasures of western Illinois." The latest edition includes articles about Lorado Taft's legacy in his hometown of Elmwood; a look at the history of the former Carthage College; Carl Sandburg's influence in his hometown of Galesburg; and a feature about Wyatt Earp's birthplace in Monmouth.

Western Illinois Magazine is available in Western Courier racks on the WIU campus and in various locations in the region. Other articles in the issue spotlight an historic mansion in Fountain Green, the Warsaw Brewery, the Lake Hill Winery near Carthage, historic Western Illinois courthouses, the ghosts of Camp Ellis and Monmouth's mysterious Cry Baby Bridge.

Western Illinois Magazine is produced once each semester, and advisers for it are Bill Knight, WIU journalism professor, and Rich Moreno, director of student publications.
