Boeckelman Named Chair of Political Science Department

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Political Science Professor Keith Bockelman has been named chair of the WIU Political Science Department, effective July 1.
Boeckelman, who came to Western as an assistant professor in 1998, has been serving as the department's interim chairperson since July 2010.
"I thank Dr. Boeckelman for serving as interim chair of the department of political science and look forward to continuing to work with him," said College of Arts and Sciences Dean Susan Martinelli-Fernandez. "His administrative abilities, academic commitment, and dedication to civic engagement will serve his department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and Western Illinois University well."
After receiving his bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Drake University in Des Moines, IA, Boeckelman received both his master's degree in political science and his doctoral degree in public policy/administration, American government, political theory and public finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana (IL).
Before coming to Western, Boeckelman was an assistant political science professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and Louisiana State University. He has also served as a visiting assistant professor at Texas A&M University and was a legislative analyst for the Illinois House of Representatives. He was also a research fellow for the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at WIU.
Boeckelman has published two books, "Barack Obama: The New Face of America," and "Barack Obama: The New Face of American Politics," as well as numerous articles in political journals, book chapters and conference speaking engagements. He also won the 2007 WIU College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Award and has served as the campus co-chair for the WIU American Democracy Project, adviser for the WIU Student Government Association and is on the board of advisers for Project Vote Smart's "Key Votes" program.
