Alumni Recreation Center Memberships

The Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center (SRC) is now offering memberships for graduates of WIU in addition to current WIU students, faculty and staff.

"We are asked quite often by alumni when they come back to campus if they have access to the SRC but in the past only students, faculty and staff could use it," said Amy Spelman MS '98, director of Alumni Relations. "We are thrilled to be working with SRC staff to provide this benefit to our alumni, and to be able to tell them, 'Yes, you can purchase a membership or even a short-term pass!'"

The SRC, which opened in 1997, is a 78,000- square-foot, $8 million facility. Due to the overwhelming success of its first nine years, an expansion to the Rec Center was recently completed to accommodate the numerous members.

All students pay an activity fee each semester to support the buildings, programs and services that comprise Campus Recreation. Daily use of the SRC, fitness classes, aquatics center, intramural programs, SRC North, equipment check-out and special events are free to fee paying WIU students. Members only need to show their student ID at the SRC front desk. Daily guest passes for visitors may be purchased at the front desk. Alumni memberships may be purchased by those who have earned a degree from Western Illinois University.

The Spencer Student Recreation center features:
-An aquatics center with a six-lane, 25-meter pool and an eight-person whirlpool.
-A state-of-the-art cardio fitness area, in addition to an elevated, 1/8 mile track.
-A spacious weight room featuring free weights and Cybex strength machines.
-Five racquetball courts and two table tennis tables.

All membership applications are verified for graduation date and must be paid by cash or check. Annual memberships, semester memberships or a three consecutive month memberships are available. Spouses and domestic partners of WIU graduates may also purchase memberships.
