Temia Rice

Temia Rice is a National Certified Counselor (NCC). A true Leatherneck, Temia earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling from Western Illinois University. Serving the WIU community for the last 13 years, she currently serves as the Assistant Director of the WIU-QC Student Services Department, coordinating programs for student success and development.

  

Temia believes establishing a good counselor and client relationship is integral to building a therapeutic alliance where growth and change can flourish.   She enjoys working with the college student population. Her counseling areas of interest include anxiety and depression, emotional regulation, personality and interrelationship origin of issues, and dynamics within the family system.

    

Temia approaches clients from a humanistic and holistic perspective integrating various counseling theories and techniques unique to the client’s needs. Temia utilizes Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client- Centered and Motivational Interviewing techniques while working with clients.

Temia enjoys spending time with family, interior decorating, and painting.  Her favorite self-care activities include connecting with nature, taking long walks, and listening to music.
