The Office of Public Safety (OPS), Western's Alcohol and Other Drug Resource Center (AODRC) and the Macomb Police Department (MPD) have received a federal grant from the Illinois Higher Education Center for the Enforcement of Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) to address illegal consumption of alcohol and other alcohol-related violations.

Jill Joline Myers, Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Department, and Leaunda Hemphill, Instructional Design and Technology Department, were invited presenters at the Professional Development Conference, "Focus on Excellence: Classroom Best Practices" sponsored by the Regional Office of Education Peoria County. The WIU faculty members conducted two breakout workshops. The first workshop dealt with "Digital Dirt: The Realities of Network Privacy in Online Communications" and the second workshop highlighted their collaborative research on effects of social networking on schools and proactive strategies for developing digital citizenship.

Keith Holz, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Art, presented the paper “Beyond modernism’s other: Nazi art international,” in the session _The Challenge of Nazi Art_, at the College Art Association Annual Conference, Los Angeles, February 22, 2012.

Dr. Marietta Loehrlein, professor of horticulture and landscaping at Western Illinois University, has published her first e-book with Kindle. The book, a collection of essays originally published in local print media, is called Beyond the Garden Gate.
