MACOMB, IL – In conjunction with National Depression Screening Day, the Western Illinois University Counseling Center will provide an anonymous, free Depression Screening Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at the University Counseling Center in Memorial Hall 102.

According to Kenlyn Gordon, a graduate assistant at the University Counseling Center and a master's degree candidate in WIU's psychology department, the screening tool also screens for bipolar disorder, anxiety and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Participants will receive informational material and view a brief video about the causes and symptoms of depression and suicide. Individuals will also receive information about the treatment options for depression, Gordon added.

"During the event, participants will complete an anonymous written screening, and if an individual desires, he or she will have the opportunity to discuss the results with a counselor," said Gordon. "Participants should allow 45 minutes to complete the screening, educational video and meet with a counselor."
