WIU-Macomb, QC Campuses to Close at 5 p.m.; Evening Classes Canceled

FEBRUARY 21, 2013
[Posted 2:35 p.m.]

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- In addition to the current weather advisory in effect for Feb. 21, Western Illinois University's Macomb and Quad Cities campuses will close at 5 p.m. today (Feb. 21), and evening classes (beginning at 5 p.m.) are canceled due to forecasted hazardous winter weather conditions, including blowing snow.

At this time, both campuses will re-open, and classes will resume, at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22. Any further updates will be posted at wiu.edu.

If weather conditions are extreme, the decision to close the University and/or cancel classes will be made by the president by 6 a.m. to better assist employees and students who must commute farther distances. If the University is closed, an alert will be sent using the WIU Emergency Alert System. Notification will also be sent to area media outlets, and all weather-related announcements will be immediately posted on the University's home page (wiu.edu) and on the WIU local area network bulletin boards.

The weather advisory allows employees the option to use accrued vacation time, compensatory time or approved leave without pay after notifying their supervisor.

According to University policy, if a University Advisory is issued due to the weather and students consider travel to campus unsafe, they should arrange with faculty to complete academic course requirements missed during the time of the advisory. Individual faculty members are responsible for their academic course requirements, and it is the individual faculty member's decision whether or not to grant a request to make up work that has been missed as a result of a University Advisory.

The WIU policy on limiting University operations because of emergency conditions is available in the Administrative Procedures Handbook, which can be viewed at wiu.edu/policies/emergency.php.
