MACOMB, IL – McHenry Community High School West senior Daniel Whiteside, of McHenry, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.

High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Whiteside said he will likely major in forensic chemistry at Western.

Whiteside said he chose Western because the University offered the major he was interested in and because of the "amazing scholarship" he was offered.

"Western has a wide variety of classes," he said. "There are excellent teachers, an Honors program and the campus is beautiful."

In high school, Whiteside participated in Drama Club and the National Honors Society.

After graduation from WIU, Whiteside plans to continue on to graduate school or pursue work in a crime lab.
