WIU Engineering Students Win Bridge Building Competition

MOLINE, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Engineering Team finished first at the Battle of the Bridges Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Putnam Museum in Davenport, IA.

The event was sponsored by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council.

The winning team was made up of WIU engineering students Chris Borchardt, a senior from Bettendorf, IA, Chad Tholen, a senior from Camanche, IA, Melissa Mesmer, a senior from Eldridge, IA, and Roger Dodd, a senior from Davenport, IA.

The competition included six college teams. The WIU team completed its bridge in eight minutes while the other teams took almost the entire three-hour time limit.
