MACOMB, IL – Julie Baker, former marketing director for the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, has been named development director for the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Western Illinois University.

Baker, a 2005 graduate of WIU with a degree in music business and a minor in marketing, began her new position at the University Monday. She began working with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra in September 2011, first working as development coordinator and later as development and special events manager and eventually as marketing director.

Prior to her work with the orchestra, Baker was the special project manager for the Elgin Choral Union; operations director of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and artist coordinator for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She also served as an intern with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after her graduation from Western.

"I am beyond thrilled to begin this next chapter in my career at WIU," said Baker. "My family and I are just as excited to get acquainted with the city and people of Macomb. As a graduate of the music business program at WIU, I have great pride in this University, and feel a very strong connection to the College of Fine Arts and Communication. I would not be where I am today in my career had I not graduated from WIU. To now have the chance to work for and raise money for this college is an incredible feeling. I look forward to meeting and collaborating with everyone in this community."
