WIU Broadcasting Students Win 10 SINBA Awards

MACOMB, IL - - Students from the Western Illinois University Department of Broadcasting and Journalism brought 10 awards back to campus from this weekend's Students in Illinois News Broadcasters Association (SINBA) award ceremonies in Springfield.

Students won six first place awards and four second place awards, as well as one student scholarship. The six first place awards is a new record high for the department.

This year's award winners include:

First place awards

Outstanding Television News Reporting – Emily Manley, a junior broadcasting major from Highland (IL)

Outstanding Radio News Reporting - Johnny Cather, a senior broadcasting major from Glen Ellyn (IL)

Outstanding Radio Sports Play By Play - Danny Frey, a sophomore broadcasting major from Springfield (IL)

Outstanding Television Sports Reporting - Redrick Terry, a junior broadcasting major from Rock Island (IL)

Outstanding Television Newscast - NEWS3

Outstanding Soft Radio Program – WIUS – "Throwback Thursday," hosted by Sam T. Jensen, a senior broadcasting major from Joliet (IL), and Lonnie Wilkins, a senior broadcasting major from Wilmington (IL)

Outstanding Radio Sports Play-By-Play - Zach Martin, a freshman broadcasting major from Davenport (IA)

Outstanding Soft Television Program - NEWS3

Outstanding Hard Television Program - NEWS3

Outstanding Sports Television Program - Pigskin Preview

During the awards ceremony, WIU student Megan Sanchez, a junior broadcasting major from Bettendorf (IA), won a $1,500 scholarship.

Western had more finalists in the competition than any other state school. WIU students were in attendance for the awards, along with Instructor Jasmine Crighton and Professor Roger Sadler.
