Dear University Community,

As we prepare for a new academic year at Western Illinois University, it is important for all University constituency groups to join together to welcome our new and returning students, faculty, and staff, and to set the stage for an outstanding year. Therefore, I would like to invite University faculty, staff and administrators to join me for the inaugural University Assembly at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 in Western Hall.

In addition to the State of the University address, Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Kathy Neumann will provide the State of Academic Affairs address, and WIU Board Chair Cathy Early and WIU Student Government President Grant Reed will also speak. I encourage members of our community to join in greeting our new students and their families during move-in, the New Student Convocation, Rocky After Dark Aug. 18, and the first day of classes Aug. 21. We are excited to welcome everyone to Western Illinois University.

We are a family at Western Illinois University. The people of this University make it a world-class institution of higher learning. From the faculty to the staff to the administration, we are here to provide our students with an outstanding academic experience, both in and out of the classroom. We are more than just a place. We are the University that sincerely cares about our students.

I look forward to seeing you Aug. 17 at the University Assembly.

Sincerely,

Jack Thomas
President
