Dear Western Illinois University Community,

The recent announcement regarding the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has raised concerns across the nation.

Western has provided a world-class education since the University opened its doors on Sept. 23, 1902, and we will continue to provide that quality educational experience for all students, regardless of their backgrounds.

Education extends beyond borders. Students from all backgrounds who meet our admissions standards, are welcome at Western Illinois University. In Fall 2016, along with my nearly 700 colleagues across the nation, I signed the statement in support of the DACA program, which provides temporary educational and employment opportunities for undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as minors.

WIU is genuinely committed to diversity and inclusion, and will remain a global community of scholars. This sentiment is embedded in our institutional values and carried forward in our practices to meet our mission and achieve our goals, while educating those persons who will make meaningful contributions to our society.

Western Illinois University will continue to support the pursuit of higher education for all.

Sincerely,

Jack Thomas
President
